Services and Our Programs

  • Children with special needs are our priority and at Our Network School we will accommodate the needs of each child.

  • The program is designed such that each individual student will have his/her own individual goals.

  • The goals will include the five core areas of language, academic, behavior, social, and cognitive.

Language: Language will be taught through the use of verbal communication, assistive technology, picture communication and sign language.  Regardless of how each child communicates, they will have every opportunity to participate in all activities on their own or with the assistance of experienced teachers. Language is the core to facilitating and assessing all other functional areas.

Cognitive skills will focus on the core skills that help to assess what a child is ready for academically.  Examples of cognitive skills are attention and memory, general concepts such as sorting, labeling and size and number concepts.  Other areas of cognitive skills are reasoning, visual perception (puzzles/matching).

Academic: The academic areas are explored by assessing where each child is cognitively based on the definition of cognitive skills see below.  Academic skills are those that work towards the traditional skills of reading, math and language.

Behavior: Behavior is the most important of all the functional areas.  One cannot expect a child to learn academic, cognitive and communication skills if the behavior is not adequately assessed and addressed.  Behavior will be intensely addressed through the one on one session for those children where that need is the strongest.

Social: Social skills development will be implemented throughout the school day in both peer initiated situations and in teacher initiated situations.  The students will have the opportunity to explore and practice various aspects of social behaviors ranging from peer play (ex. sharing, turn taking) to pretend play (ex. Community helpers, playing house).

In order to better accommodate and to meet the needs of each child, a specialist will individually assess each child and combine that assessment with parents’ feedback. The goals will constantly change. As each child shows progress of mastering a goal we will ensure that the goal is mastered by consistently providing students with opportunities to generalize those skills at school and at home.  Parents will be informed of their child’s progress during quarterly meetings.
